Wanna go to Dubai? Don't want to stay in a 200-story tower? It seems impossible what with grand hotels like the Burj Al Arab and the Trump Dubai grabbing the world's attention left and right with their over the top luxury (and height). But there is an alternative. A boutique hotel...with only 20 rooms.

La Maison d'Hôtes, as you can probably guess by the name, is run by some French people--two French women. One of these ladies is experienced with guest houses and the other is an interior designer, which surely makes a good combination for a boutique hotel.

La Maison d'Hôtes has 20 rooms and each of them is decorated differently, evoking a different culture, for example, they have rooms inspired by Persia, Sri Lanka, Berber or Afghanistan. Outside there are two swimming pools to choose from.

They've got WiFi access in the communal lounge and it's possible to have internet access in your room if you request it on reservation--better than nothing, we suppose.

A classic double room here will cost you 850 Dirhams (US$230) but if you're traveling with a small group the two bedroom suite sounds better--it sleeps up to 6 for 1,300 Dirhams (US$350) a night. But whichever room you choose it seems to us a good way to put a bit of character into a Dubai stopover.
