Prince Plays Top-Secret Show for Rich People at the Gansevoort

On Friday, Prince played a top-secret show in the rooftop loft of the Hotel Gansevoort. According to Gothamist, tickets hovered around $1000, and the four-hour (two show) rich-people-only soiree featured Prince singin' the hits.
Plus, we hear he tweaked the lyrics to "1999" to reflect the current economic crisis. Oh, that jokester. Maybe instead of "two thousand zero zero party over oops out of time" it was "my bank account's at zero hey buddy do you have a dime?" Har har.
We were gonna take a stab at the audience members who forked over so much cash to see a concert (Dave Chappelle, Anderson Cooper, Dennis Rodman, and Spike Lee among them), but then we heard the show was benefiting his Love 4 One Another charity and we sort of felt bad.
Page Six also mentioned a little bit of a snag in the performance: apparently, the cellphones in the room had screwed with Prince's sound system and Mr. Purple Rain had to ask the crowd to turn off their crackberries and iPhones to get on with the show.
We're pretty sure that if Prince would have chosen a bigger venue and allowed more tickets to be sold, he would have raised the same amount of money (if not more!) and could have had no problems with his sound system.
But then again, we have to recognize and respect his apparent passion and preference for putting on pricey, intimate little shows at hotels. Remember the adventures that transpired at last year's shows at the Hollywood Roosevelt? Yeah. We don't, cause we couldn't get tickets to that either.
