We love us some shtick--like when that mental-hospital hotel opens, we're so there--which is why we're really excited for Hotel Vertigo (formerly Personality Hotel's York Hotel), officially opening in San Francisco in December.

For starters, the 97-room hotel has myriad references to its namesake Alfred Hitchcock movie starring James Stewart and Kim Novak: the movie will play on the white Carerra marble floors, guests will be offered "Madeline" cookies at check in (the name of Novak's character) and in 2009, Hotel Vertigo will host readings and movie showings of Hitchcock's films.

Luckily, with their high wing back chairs and crisp white walls and furniture, the guestrooms aren't decorated as if they came straight out of some hokey horror movie.

Suites are named after characters in the film and Suite 13 will have 13 "discreet" nods to Vertigo that "only those most familiar with the movie will be able to uncover," the hotel says. And lets not forget Tyler Florence's debut of his first-ever restaurant, Bar Florence, at the hotel in 2009.

Remember, we Hotel Maven Brandon sent us a review of remodeled rooms which are actually available now. The hotel's website actually promises a set of renovated rooms will be unveiled November 1st. But if you can't wait until then, call the hotel and specifically request one of the renovated rooms.
