Escape the Economy Hotels :: The Colonnade's Eye on the Dow Jones

All this week we will be running Escape the Economy hotel packages. We doubt this will make you feel better about your dwindling stash of money but you might actually have a good time.

Hotels will seize on any major event in life to make a room package out of it. Aside from the usual holiday packages--Christmas, Valentine's Day, Labor Day, New Year's, etc.--we also have BabyMoons, ConceptionMoons, PostNatalMoons, Divorce and Proposal Packages, American Girl Packages, NFL Packages, and more. In fact, you could probably live the entire circle of life through a hotel package. And the downturn in the economy is no different.

Several emails have been showing up in our in-box as of late encouraging people to escape their economic woes at a hotel. Some of them are in bad taste and some of them have made us go, "Hmm...." We'll be focusing on the latter this week.

Up first is The Colonnade Hotel in Boston which is offering a "Bulls & Bears" package. The main premise of this promotion is to give guests discounts based on the Dow Jones performance.

If the market finishes down, guests receive 20 percent off their stay; if the market is up the hotel will take 10 percent off making it a win-win for Bulls & Bears.

The way that the Dow is performing as of late, we say the odds are very good you will get 20 percent knocked off your stay. This is also the same package the hotel did last spring but now the deal is good through March 31, 2009. Room rates start at $260 a night.
