Presidential Hotels :: Where In Pittsburgh Is Obama?

October 10, 2008 at 9:29 AM | 1 Comment

Barack Obama visits Pittsburgh today so he can drop the puck at the Penguins' hockey game, oh, and probably remind us all that "Main St. is suffering" and "we don't need four more years of broken George W. Bush policies." Agreed, dude, but switch up the syntax once in awhile so the talking points aren't so obvious.

We digress. Our priority here is to decipher where Obama might rest his potentially presidential head. What Pittsburgh boasts in rusty bridges and abandoned factories, it lacks in top-tier hotels. So we've been able to narrow it down fairly easily.

Omni William Penn: A slam dunk. It's the stateliest, oldest hotel in Pittsburgh. Plus, JFK stayed there once, and even Caroline and Teddy agree there's a resemblance between the two handsome, young, charismatic guys. They probably have the same hotel tastes too. Plus, the place has almost 600 rooms, so it's probably easier to hide out, and find space for his massive support team.

Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel: The hotel is located in the restored Fulton Building. And its near the city's theaters, Heinz Field, PNC Park, and Mellon Arena, where he'll be dropping the puck. Though it has a smoke-free policy, and Barack, a former smoker, likes to sneak once in a while. With four weeks until election day, now's as good a time as any.

Westin Convention Center: What better way to shed the elitist image and prove he's a man of the people by staying at this hotel with one of the city's worst views. If being raised on food stamps by a single mother though didn't succeed in mollifying people's irritation at a leader who is their intellectual superior, however, we doubt spending an evening staring at an empty parking lot will.

    Omni William Penn

Stayed there for one night on business last month.  Had a nice, large room, but was disappointed to discover that in their recent renovation they did not switch to flat-panel TVs or add power outlets to the desk.  Their wireless was almost flawless though, just a bit slow on downloading YouTube.
