Plaza Athénée Taunts Us With Spa Treatments We Can't Afford

If you can't afford to buy Dior clothing, or even the couturier's perfume, chances are you won't be able to afford the new Dior Institut salon at Hotel Plaza Athénée in Paris. But we can dream, can't we?
Here's what a press release had to say about the 5,000-square-foot spa with five treatment rooms, one double VIP room, sauna, hammam and relaxation lounge, located below the lobby level of the hotel:
Clients are greeted at the Institut with an image wall of fashion show clips recounting the Dior legend and opening onto a broad and vaulted gallery. Within lies a central pool crowned with a glistening "droplet" of blown glass, arched arcades leading to treatment rooms and precious materials in plush, iridescent textures both quilted and caned.
If that doesn't sound soothing enough, the treatments certainly do, which include the pièce de résistance of massages: the L'Or de Vie, which uses ingredients from Yquem grapevines--supposedly the source of the most powerful antioxidants ever discovered.
Sounds nice, non? Except when you hear the 490-euro price tag. Eek! But no matter, at least the Plaza Athénée lets the hoi polloi in to use its spa, unlike some other hotel in Paris that won't even let non-guests in its lobby.
