While some of us are planning some unofficial living room shindigs in which we plan to, in a way, "drink the vote" (or make up a drinking game to get us through the VP debates tomorrow night, really), the poolside Blue on Blue at The Avalon Hotel is taking things a bit more seriously with its Drink the Vote 2008 promo, which launches today.

Like a lot of hotels, they are offering a selection of politically themed food: "Caucus Kabobs" are our favorite name on the menu -- other gems include Electoral [oyster] Shooters, GOP (grilled onion and prosciutto on flatbread) and a Green Party Platter.

But the most fun can be had, of course, with the actual drinking of the your vote. We usually don't go for cutesy political gimmicks at hotels, but this one is seriously a winner.

Obama and McCain-themed cocktails are being offered, and Blue on Blue will be keeping a tally of how many of each are sold throughout the promo. At the end of the campaign, they'll be announcing which one, er, "won."

Hopefully, your drink of choice will appeal to you as much as your candidate of choice -- it would be truly unfortunate if your fave presidential hopeful's rival had the more delicious cocktail. Decide for yourself:

Obamarita
Patron Silver, Blue Curacao, fresh lime juice, Prosecco.

Mccainade
Jim Beam, Amaretto, lemonade, iced tea, grenadine.

You can, of course, abstain from voting by drinking an "All-American" instead, which is a concoction of Leblon Cachaça, strawberries, blueberries and fresh lime.

Do us a favor and knock back a few to support your candidate -- and then you can run around yelling "Caucus Kabob" because that would be totally awesome.

Drink the Vote runs from 3:00-6:00 pm Monday through Friday at Blue on Blue in the Avalon until November 4th.

Reminds me of...

Great Idea

Hopefully, they don't run into any problems with the liquor control board.  I'd be interested to hear how the 'vote' turns out.
