The Milestone Hotel in London has blown the competition out of the water by being named London's best hotel in not one, but two prestigious travel magazines.
The Milestone took the top spot for London in Travel and Leisure magazine's famous Top 500 list, and was bestowed with the same honour in Conde Nast Traveler's just published Gold List for 2008.
The five-star hotel is part of the Red Carnation Group and comprises just 57 rooms and six apartments. Located opposite Kensington and Hyde Parks, the boutique hotel "boasts a refined, residential feel", is home to one of London's most renowned restaurants, Cheneston's, and offers a range of additional perks from traditional high tea to a four-hour Bentley shopping service (at a considerable price, of course).
It's been a good year for the Red Carnation Group as another of their hotels, 41 Hotel, took out the number two spot on Travel and Leisure magazine's list. Much like the Milestone, 41 is described as "a discreet and private retreat with a private club air". No doubt there's a butler named Giles, too.
Prices start from around USD$485 a night at the Milestone and USD$395 per night at 41, not including any of the optional extras. But for your own little piece of English high society, it sounds like the folks at Red Carnation are doing a sterling job.
