This Week in HotelChatter Commenting...Hotel Reviews Here, There and Everywhere

· Hotel Maven DavesDad dropped $850 a night on the outdated Kilauea Lakeside Estate calling his stay very disappointing.

· Another maven Julie W voiced her displeasure at the Soho Hotel London which is ranked #1 on TripAdvisor.

My husband and I recently stayed in the Soho Suite over the holidays and the service was really lacking. Room service took almost an hour every day for breakfast and was always cold. There was an arrangement of dead flowers with an inch of brown water that no one changed out (finally after the smell got so rank, I put it out in the hall) service at the bar was also not great...and I was surprised that the three nights that my husband and I went down for a drink, there were several 'working girls' working the bar...(real WORKING girls, not just a few chicks dressed slutty)

Another reviewer, Jletter, had a good stay but warned about windows facing other guestrooms.

· Maven bc4travel had a good stay at the Charlotte Jane Hotel in Christchurch, New Zealand.

We had a large, well appointed bedroom and en suite bathroom. We really enjoyed the social hour in the evening, with lovely canapes and drinks. An ideal time to swap stories with other guests and our charming hosts.

· Footlose6 had a so-so stay at the Hotel Elysee just off Park Avenue in NYC. Small rooms, poor service and outdated brochures were to blame:

My radiator clanged, banged and gurgled loud enough to wake me a couple of times a night. I reported it and was told, the system is old nothing can be done about it. One of my friends had no heat for 2 nights because it took that long to fix a faulty thermostat.

The only positive seemed to be the location.
