The other weekend we hit up Prive, the new nightclub inside the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino and we liked what we saw.

Brought to Las Vegas from Miami by the Opium Group, Prive and its adjacent Living Room are the hotel's big nightlife attractions. Both are located on the Mezzanine level of the hotel which has its own escalator up from the casino floor, making it feel as if you are getting on a ride at an amusement park only except five-inch stilettos and mini-dresses have replaced the walking shoes and fanny packs.

Once you walk into the club, four LCD screens are on the right-hand side broadcasting images from the Opium Groups other hotspots (there's a Prive in Miami too as well as Mansion and SET.) Then you are greeted by the massive main bar which features a concave-shape granite top, backlit tortoise shell facade with high gloss millwork and an inverse-pyramid shape chandelier. Chandeliers are big here in PH.

VIP seating

The club is a good-size--not the monstrosity that is Tao, nor the intimate space that is Tryst--with 26-foot high ceilings and Greek theater-design. VIP seating aka tables with pricey bottle service have sofas with extra-wide backs meaning you can dance on the sofas and the backs of the sofas, although we recommend removing those stilettos before you do so.

We happened to visit on a night when the energy was high. The fashion designers from Heatherette had held a fashion show earlier in the night and then kicked it at a private table later. Also male socialite Fabian Basabe was in the crowd, even dancing atop a block with a go-go dancer. He may want to look up the definition of rhythm before he does that again.

The DJs (who were flanked by random giant faux elephant tusks in the DJ booth) spun a great selection of recent R&B and pop hits and some old-school hits like Madonna which pleased our table of ladies. The only musical disappointments were some repeated songs like Janet Jackson's "Feedback" was played twice and the DJ butchered Britney's "Gimme More."

If you're not as into dancing, then you can chill in the Living Room which is adjacent to Prive and was inspired by the cigar lounges of the 1940s with cognac leather sofas, Persian rugs, and a granite bar. There's also some modern touches like the glass-enclosed fireplace, LED backlit accents, and giant Venetian mirrors.

If you're looking for a VVIP experience (Very VIP), book one of the eight tables on Prive's intimate balcony overlooking the Strip.

Now after our visit to Prive, we've checked out almost every bit of Planet Hollywood--the rooms, the Mandara Spa, the Miracle Mile shops, Planet Dailies diner, Koi and the Strip House--and we have to say this one of our new fave hotels on the strip. The energy is high, the crowd is hip and the options outside of gambling are fun and exciting. Kinda like the Hard Rock used to be way before the Rehab ilk trashed the place.
