Another Hotel Opening Delay: London's Franklin Hotel

The last time we checked up on the next big thing in London, The Franklin (it's right next door to Harrod's, so if nothing else it's the perfect location for the ultimate London shopping spree) they were advertising a December 1 opening. Hit their website now and you're greeted with "Opening Early 2008" and not much other detail.
Whatever happened to the promo rates available for early January is a mystery to us, but we hope our readers weren't among any who booked a room. In fact, online booking sites now aren't showing room availability until May 1, although their publicity company assures us that the current schedule has the Franklin opening up in March.
When the Franklin does get up and running, we're keen to see the new look. Rather being an entirely new hotel, it's actually a massive renovation that's been running since fall of 2006. Since the Franklin actually spans four old Victorian townhouses, there's said to be a lot of the historical in the new look, as well as a tribute to modernity. Some bits we like the sound of are the engraved back-lit glass panels in the bathrooms and the stone and fired oak floors. So let's hope the grand re-opening happens soon.
