It's finally here--the grand opening of the Palazzo Las Vegas. While the rooms opened a few weeks back, this is the weekend that the hot tables and the Shoppes at the Palazzo are finally open to the public.

And even though Las Vegas Sands owner Sheldon Adelson is soo over Sin City and has his sights set on Macau, the celebration for Palazzo will be in full swing this weekend.

The party kicked off last night and we received a VIP Party Dispatch from Charles Ogilvie of Virgin America who wrote in:

The Palazzo hotel opened last night and was sensational. Everything from the way you were greeted at the taxi stand to restaurants resembled classic "Italian hospitality"....well done to the owners and staff!

Charles is seen here with Ray Nisi, owner and sommelier of the Double Helix Bar on the Palazzo's second floor. Charles says this is one of the most awesomest places to see:

Basically, you can customize your flight of wines and sample all sorts of interesting wines by the glass (2 oz or 5 oz) and then buy the bottle if so inclined.  They have a vacuum system that sucks the air out of the bottle, so they are able to pour a remarkable selection of wines on-demand.....very cool stuff and just one floor up from the casino above the central chandelier (near Pink, Fendi and some other high-end stores.)

Additionally, Charles popped into Jay-Z's 40/40 club (where we visited last Friday night) to hear Train play. Train? Hmmm...we didn't realize there was a public hankering for 2001's hit bands. Also spotted were some members of the Desperate Housewives and Law & Order casts.

The party will wrap up tomorrow night with a performance by Diana Ross and the Tony Award-winning musical that will play at the hotel-casino come April 4th, "The Jersey Boys."

As for the rooms, we are noticing that the Palazzo's Luxury rooms aren't that much different from the renovated Venetian rooms. But if you book a Bella room (slightly more expensive), then you'll see some decor changes.
