Super Bowl Hotel Rooms: Slim Pickings

Drop your Super Bowl XLIII hotel room tips here.

It looks like the dilemma facing any Super Bowl attendee or party-goer who hasn't yet secured hotel reservations is this: Either fork over several hundred dollars for a room worth about one-forth of that, or pay a reasonable (although still inflated) rate and put up with noisy air conditioners and vagrants in the lobby.

For example, a quick check of availability shows places like Marriott, Sheraton, Hyatt & Hilton are all full. A few mid-tier properties such as the La Quinta are available, but at mind-blowing $424 to $652 nightly rates!

On the other hand, you can still get a room at the bottom-basement bargain of $119 per night at Motel 6 Phoenix West. But (Big But), you might want to consider what a few TripAdvisor members had to say about the place first:

"Where's the soap? Nothing to wash your hands with, no shampoo, no lotion, no tissues, no shower cap, no alarm clock...nothing. Horribly loud air conditioner. Scary people are hanging out in the parking lot. Was surprised to find no damage to our vehicle in the morning.

"Besides being in what seemed to be in a bad location, the staff was rude, the hotel room smelled of something rotting, and the sheets and floor were stained."

"This is a dungeon. Nothing works properly and towels are thread bear. They should just close the damned thing!"

So, there you have it. Either take out a second mortgage or get used to dirty sheets and no soap. Choices, choices....

    Red Roof Inn $400

Found on Hotels.com.: You can stay at the Red Roof Inn in Phoenix for $300 a night. Extended Stay America is slightly cheaper at $270 a night and it's near the Phoenix Airport.

    Outside Phoenix, but where?

Looks like there are still some rooms in Tempe, Mesa, Chandler and Ahwatukee, according to a news report. But not sure what's open there. Sheraton Hotels are all booked out. Hiltons and Marriotts are all sold out as well. Giants and Pats fans may have to look into renting out some vacation rentals.

Re: Super Bowl Hotel Rooms: Slim Pickings

It is not slim pickings out here in Phoenix. There are plenty of hotels left with plenty of rooms. For example, go to www.marriott.com and type in the dates. If you are seeing slim pickings, it is because there are restrictions on the rooms. Meaning, you have to stay four nights beginning on the 31st of January and out the 4th of February. Type those dates in and 26 hotels pop up on just the Marriott page. Rooms are ranging from $299 in the east valley to up to $5000 per night. Around the Stadium, it looks like $599 and up. Good luck!

    Re: Outside Phoenix, but where?

Courtyard by Marriott in Phoenix near the stadium says they have rooms available, but when we searched Feb. 2-4, we came up with nothing. Same thing when we tried Feb. 1-4. So that's a no-go.

The restrictions at marriott.com is a 4 night minumum. Checking in on January 31 and out on the 4th. There is only one property on marriott.com that is at a 3-night restriction (Feb 1-4) and it is a Renaissance at $3000/night. I just went to a SpringHill Suites 7 miles North of the Stadium and put in January 31-February 4 and got it up at $599/night plus tax.

    Just searched for 2.2 - 2.5...

Just put a Feb 2 - Feb 5 stay into our hotel rate search plenty of "Best Westerny" options still available, but you are gonna pay $300 a night or so for a room in and around Phoenix at least for Friday, Saturday and Sunday night.  Wonder if you could have saved $100s by booking before the games yesterday.  Prob non refundable though.

Re: Super Bowl Hotel Rooms: Slim Pickings

I booked a room earlier today when searching many websites for the best deal at a cheap rate. I booked a room at La Quinta Inn for $129 a night plus a booking fee through http://www.cheapsuperbowlhotels.com

They had some availability for different room types at the La Quinta for much cheaper than La Quintas official site charging $499 a room. They had some Budget properties at rates around $100 as well. They also have some no minimum stay hotels with Saturday 2/2 check-ins at budget hotel properties.

I already called the La Quinta and they have the reservation in my name so I'm pretty happy right now!

I found out about that site through craigslist in phoenix tickets section so there might be some more good deals there as well.
I can't wait for the game and I wish everybody luck finding cheap hotel rooms!

    Re: Red Roof Available $250!!!!!

Hi...there are 4 Red Roof Inns that have rooms available!  Airport, West, Bell Rd & Chandler.  If you call their groups department directly instead of booking on Expedia or Hotels.com, the rates are even better ($250 as opposed to $300!!!)
    the phone number is 800-874-9000

    Hi everyone,

I have 2 timeshare weeks at LUXURY hotels available for cheaper than it would cost to stay at Red Roof Inn! (Namely, $215/ night for a one-bedroom condo, or $150/night for a studio.)

Both locations are about 30 minutes away from the University of Phoenix Stadium, where the Super Bowl will be held. They are also close to Sky Harbor International Airport.

The first week is a luxury one bedroom condo at the Legacy Golf Resort. (www.legacygolfresort.com)
    8 days 7 nights. 1/28/08 check-in 2/4/08
    check-out. Max. 4 adults.
Price: $215/ night, or $1500 for the entire week.

The second is a luxury studio condo at Scottsdale Villa Mirage. (www.villa-mirage.com) 8 days 7 nights. 2/1/08 check-in 2/8/08 check-out. Max. 2 adults.
Price: $150/ night, or $1050 for the entire week.
