UPDATE: A flack from LaForce + Stevens PR agency is who repping this project says the name of the hotel is to be The Chelsea, not The Chelsea House.

Real-estate blogger Andrew Calvo over at Passions of a Zealot let us know of some excellent research he's done on the Atlantic City hotel scene.

It turns out the Holiday Inn and the Howard Johnson are closing down and that a brand-new boutique hotel called The Chelsea House will open in May 2008.

Calvo writes:

I did some research and found out why it is closing. A partnership named A.C. Beach Development Partners, LLC purchased the Holiday Inn & the neighboring Howard Johnson's for $36million earlier this year. The partnership intends to combine both properties into Atlantic City's first Boutique Hotel named "The Chelsea", it is scheduled to open in time for Memorial Day 2008 after a $93 million renovation.

An article in the Press of Atlantic City backs his research up and adds some more details such as the place will feature 337 luxury rooms with rates ranging from $200s to the $300s, a rooftop pool with private cabanas, a spa and two restaurants by Stephen Starr, the man behind NYC's Buddakan, Continental and Striped Bass restaurants.

As for the hotel name, no doubt it's trying to inject some Manhattan cool into AC (Soho House anyone?) but the street name is Chelsea Avenue and there's already a bed and breakfast down the street called The Chelsea. How about some originality people?
