Hard Rock Vegas Renovations Humming Along

It's been a while since we checked in with the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino and its ongoing renovations. The Morgans Hotel Group property is trying to play up its Rehab pool parties and attract the wannabe jet set from Hollywood with a new Amy Sacco spa.

Ian Schrager's magic touch has decamped from Morgans to Marriott, but owners say the $750 million in renovations will keep the Hard Rock as flash as its ever been. (Work is scheduled to wrap in mid-2009.) Two additional towers of rooms will bring the total to 1,100 and new restaurants and shopping are planned to lure non-gamers to the property. And the topless pool area will attract more men to the hotel, no doubt.

In many ways, the work mirrors the plans for the Hard Rock San Diego, with sexy rooms and a focus on lifestyle--whatever that means.

I visited the Hard Rock in June to see what all the buzz was about "Rehab".  It was hot (temperature wise), some who had too much to drink were puking anywhere they chose, the service sucked, and the pool was filled with so much oil it looked like a Valdez harbor.
