After we spent a day and night at the Venetian, we headed on over to the Bellagio for two nights. We always thought the Bellagio was like the second best hotel on the Strip (after Wynn of course), because those fountains are so darn pretty! Also the place has a five-diamond award from AAA. But we were thoroughly disappointed.
The Bellagio atrium was kinda hectic--just like check-in.
Check-In For starters, check-in was totally disorganized. At the Venetian and other places, they have a velvet-roped queue and as each front desk agent becomes open the next person in line is up.
But at the Bellagio it was a free-for-all. So you could be waiting in a line three people deep while the one next to you only has two people and the one beyond that has four people. And sometimes the four-person line moves faster than the two-person line. Note to Bellagio: get a velvet-roped queue.
Could this armoire BE any bigger?
Room Reaction We thought the room was so-so. It was spacious with a gigantic armoire that took up half the wall. But we thought it was lacking in few things.
For starters, the alarm clock was flashing 12:00 when we walked in and we had no clue how to set it. Also, the TV was a nice-sized but there was no DVD player. We thought for sure the Bellagio would have one of those.
In the bathroom we couldn't find a hairdryer and the only full-length mirrors were on the backs of the armoire doors which never gave you a good view of how you looked.
The bed was comfortable enough with large pillows but the stain on the headboard just reminded us of how many people probably slept in the bed before us.
Grrrrrr.
Internet Connect This was the worst part of the Bellagio. There is no WiFi--only ethernet. And if you didn't bring your own ethernet cable then you have to pay $10.99 for a cable found in the minibar. Ugh. Internet costs $12.99 for 24 hours per laptop in the room. So if you both want to get on your own laptops, that's $12.99 x 2. Double ugh.
You can actually swim in this pool.
Pool Scene We did like the pool scene. It was low-key although still an enormous space with several pools. There was no obnoxious music although we though the lounge chairs were too close to each other.
The Layout Naturally, casinos are meant to be confusing. But at the Bellagio it's even more of a hassle to get to your room thanks to the enormous conference center built inside. We were in the main tower which was further away from the lobby and pretty much everything else, except the entrance to the pool.
We suggest staying in a spa tower which is closer to the lobby and the hotel's scenic atrium garden, along with the famous chocolate fountain at Jean Philipe Patisserie.
Bottom Line Aside from the fabulous fountain shows out front, we were disappointed with the Bellagio. We just expected something a bit nicer. Although it was a relief to not have to deal with a thematic type of hotel casino. Since we were tagging along on someone else's conference trip, we didn't pay for the rooms but they were priced at $199 for Sunday and Monday nights.
