With a mouthful of a name, the first Westin hotel in Dubai is due to open January 12, 2008: and it will be called the Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina. It's being hyped as a neoclassical building with great views over the Arabian Gulf, including 1,200 meters of private beaches. The location is also great for shoppers, being right nearby the Mall of the Emirates, currently the largest shopping mall outside North America.

With all that building and expansion going on in Dubai, it's probably not surprising to learn that recruitment for the new hotel staff is a bit of a problem. It seems that most of the staff will be recruited from abroad and relocated to Dubai ready for the January opening. So if you stay at the new Westin, don't expect to meet a local: the staff you deal with will more likely come from countries as far and wide as India, Russia, Morocco and Brazil.
