In its heyday it hosted plenty of celebrities and had concerts conducted by Bartok in the ballroom. Now its main appeal is its excellent location near the Opera House and city center attractions. The Rickshaw Asian restaurant is one of the best in town for both Thai food and its sushi bar and the adjoining Bock Bistro is known for its excellent selection of Hungarian wines from around the country.

The two-bedroom Royal Suite here is like a large, luxurious apartment with a full kitchen (240 square meters/2,400 square feet). If you're going to splash out, it's a relative bargain compared to other hotels in town: 1,000 to 3,000 euros a night depending on the season. Hey, breakfast is included.

The rest of the rooms allcome with free Internet access--a real rarity in Europe--and half the rooms also have a trouser press.
