Paris Hotel Guide: More Design Hotels

Where: Paris, France

Yesterday, our special Paris Hotel Guide correspondent Monica Guy sounded off on some of the city's most popular and classic design hotels. But she has more recommendations for those of us clueless about where to stay in the City of Light. Here's a quick hit list of some further design hotels.

Design and boutique hotels are popping up and blowing down all over Paris, all of the time. But if you get rich quick or want to sleep with someone who just has, you can also try these:

· Hotel Odeon St-Germain. The lady speaking on the website has, presumably, the kind of voice middle-aged businessmen find attractive.
· Hotel La Trémoille. Ignore any nasty reviews about this place's restaurant, previously a rather unwelcoming Sir Terence Conran-signed place known as Senso. It's recently had a makeover and despite gaining the even sillier name of Louis2, has jumped up several steps on the good restaurant ladder.
· Hotel Keppler. We'll talk more about this in our "Paris for Lovers" guide later this week.
· Hotel Sezz Designed by Christopher Pillock - I mean, Pillet, with several awards for being hot and hip. Never been, but the website insists you'll be welcomed by your own personal assistant, which is funny as I don't think I have one.
· Le Placide Opened just last year opposite the fashionable Bon Marché store, designed by Phillipe Starck's friend Bruno Borrione. Only 11 rooms and they're always full, so book early.
· Murano Calls itself an 'urban resort', which means nothing, but word is it's a techno-filled hotel that lives up to its name for rock&roll and pop-art.

Re: Hotel Odeon St Germain lady

Mmmhh... what a sweet, inviting voice.

I like how although you have just turned off the sound, she proceeds to start talking again whenever you click to another page! No doubt they want everyone to know that they are great 'jusqu'au moindre detail' (in the smallest possible detail), which she repeats about 20 times in a row at some point.

Also: thumbs up for the furry-looking bed head. Lovely detail indeed!

Hotel Odeon Saint Germain, a lovely place!

We stayed at L'Odeon Saint Germain for five nights and loved every minute of it. We had booked a superior room, but were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to a junior suite as a result of a couple of glitches with our internet booking. The suite was really the size of a normal room, given that Parisien hotel rooms are notoriously small! The staff were super-attentive and extremely helpful, whether speaking English or humouring me in my pigeon-French! The rooms were beautifully furnished, very clean, and new-looking. Our room was overlooked by some rooms (think it was a mix of hotel/private houses) so we were a little careful to keep the curtains drawn while getting dressed and such. The location is amazing - just steps away from all the action of Saint Germain but quiet enough to get a good night's sleep. The breakfast/honesty bar looked good, but we chose to 'follow our nose' to the nearest patisserie and grab a coffee and a croissant or quiche lorraine for a couple of euros. There's even a Starbucks within five minutes if you need a fix. I would definitely return to this hotel, the only question is when????
