Mommies Flock To W Hotel Bar In San Diego

A the W Hotel in downtown San Diego, a group of women gather to relive their wild youths on the first Wednesday of every month.

The difference? Instead of belly chains, they now have offspring attached to their hips. And few request a shot of booze in their cocktails, anticipating a long ride on the thruway back to the suburbs with baby on board.

The women come for Mommy Happy Hour. Held at the W's outdoor bar, called the Beach, stay-at-home find companionship and a reason to get dressed up, according to a story in the San Diego Metro News.

"We always go to playgrounds. It's fun to pretend that we are not dowdy mommies for a day," said Christine Dominguez of Scripps Ranch. Wearing a red sundress with a graphic print, Dominguez, 38, attended the W Happy Hour with her 2-year-old daughter, Simone, and the other mothers from Simone's play group.

Since we're still running around indulging in 20-something selfishness, we'd like to check out some of the hotel's other amenities the next time we visit. In particular, we like the sound of W's Whatever/Whenever service, that promises to provide guests with any request as long as its legal.
