India's sprawling metropolis, Mumbai, can be a pricey place to shack up in, especially if you're looking to stay in the hip Colaba district on the south end of the island. But there are gems to be found, like the kitschy Hotel Ascot, which is hands down the best bang for your buck (or rupees).

The highlight at this property, besides the low price of $125, are the enormous, immaculately clean bathrooms. For those who have not been to the sub-continent, top-notch facilities are a rarity and always appreciated. We also loved the crisp white linen, modern spacious rooms, HD TVs, and over-sized windows.

Ascot's perfectly restored art deco façade is also worth a shout-out; the funky white and chrome exterior accented with lush tropical plants reminded us of Miami sans topless men in rollerblades.

Our only major complaint is that Ascot is a bit of a walk to major attractions like the Gateway of Indian and Flora Fountain. However, it is very close Amore Gelato the best gelato joint out side of Italy. And, let's be honest, when temperatures are hovering in the high 80's who really cares about history?
