From tipster CHP:
I live on South Beach (or just "the Beach", as it's known here) but never have my camera when I'm near the construction site, but today was your lucky day. Don't get too excited, though, you'll see that there hasn't been too much progress. But at least the Holiday Inn is gone!
Over the past few years of witnessing the construction of countless hotel and condo projects around Miami and the Beaches (I'm obsessively tracking, daily, the progress of 2 separate condo high rises that are visible from my home windows), and if I had to guess, I'd say that the W South Beach will be completed 2 years from today.
I get the feeling that the developers are deliberately taking their time with this project. Once this foundation is set (what they are doing now with those rebar cylinders which will be filled with concrete) everything seems to speed up as the structure goes vertical quickly - floor after floor.
Once the structure is topped off (probably a year from now) things start to move slowly again as windows are put in and the structure is enclosed. Then it always seems like it takes forever for the pool amenities and landscaping to be completed.
FYI - that white building with blue glass balconies in the background is the older part of the renovated building that's attached to the still unopened Paradiso/Gansevoort South.
