The last we heard about Brooklyn's Hotel Le Bleu, it was waiting on a certificate of occupancy. We went to check it out to find out if it really does overlook the Gowanus Canal, if it does have a tiny lobby and whether or not it would open any time soon.

On that last bit, it seems that October 1 may actually happen. True, it's only weeks away, but there are just a handful of things holding up the certificate of occupancy: elevator indicators and standpipe checks are scheduled for this week. As GM Robert Gaeta told us, he's done his part, and he's just waiting for the city's approval. "We're not Six Columbus," he said more than once.

As for those views, half the rooms do have a glimpse of the slimy Gowanus Canal and a sweeping panorama of U-Haul filled parking lots. From the higher floors, though, you also get the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline. (Not available from Manhattan hotel rooms.)

While most of the rooms are finished, one floor still has some work pending, and the entire hotel is getting scrubbed down this week. The rooftop restaurant and bar are still months away and definitely under contruction. But GM Gaeta told us that was always the plan: Get the hotel open, then worry about the restaurant. Hotel Le Bleu plans keep guests off the 7th floor so it can act as a buffer zone between the occupied floors and the construction for the restaurant and bar.

More photos of the hotel are in the HotelChatter Flickr Pool.

One cool thing in the hotel-Le-Bleu-saga is that, although it is clearly not open to the public yet, it is already #6 on Tripadvisor ((-:

Just like the new rooms at the POD hotel in NYc, it makes me wonder about people who share rooms. in other words, say u and your girl/boy friend are booking a room for you and another couple, but you dont plan on paying extra person charges so you dont tell the hotel, in turn they make no mntion of the unique set up. . Now when you get there you have to watch each other shower hope you are close friends.  Odds of orgies breaking out at these kind of properties are way up.

    @ LuciferBumps

You say the odds of orgies are up like it's a bad thing!

While you can show it off while you scrub, there is a skimpy curtain built in that can be pulled around the shower if you're not in the mood. It won't obscure things completely, but it'll  keep your prudish friends away from prying eyes
