Vail Hotel Scene :: Coming Soon, The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa

We're checking in on the hotel happenings in Vail, Colorado this week and while Vail Village is mostly under construction, Beaver Creek Resort a couple miles away is as gorgeous as ever.

Beaver Creek sees ski seasons that are just as busy as Vail's and the town of Avon, located at the bottom of Beaver Creek Mountain, has several hotels and condo complexes that host a pretty serious number of those winter guests. A big problem here: skiers staying in Avon that wish to ski Beaver Creek mountain have always had to take a shuttlebus up to the slopes. Not so fun.

Here comes Starwood to save the day. Today we take a look at the development of the new Westin Riverfront Resort and Spa.

The Westin Riverfront is a 271-room full service condo-hotel development sitting on 19 acres at the base of Beaver Creek Mountain. The project is slated to be completed in Summer 2008, but the residences are rumored to be up and running before the rest of the complex (which includes a small shopping center).

The super-fancy website has some renderings of the residential units (see top) and they're gorgeous. Also, the property is also supposedly shooting for LEED certification.

But really, the biggest draw of the Riverfront project is the solution to the skier shuttlebus problem: a brand new gondola located steps from the hotel that connects Avon to Beaver Creek Mountain. This means no more shuttlebuses and, hopefully, no more crazy-expensive parking in Beaver Creek Village.

The gondola is scheduled to be open this coming ski season, even though the hotel won't be. Judging by the picture we took from the side of the road, it's looking like it might actually be ready on time. We know-- on time, crazy!
