Travel and Leisure Talks Up Eternally Unopened Six Columbus on the 'Today Show'

Six Columbus is the luckiest hotel alive. The place has been in the process of "opening" for about two years but it still has managed to garner some crazy good press.
The most recent happened today on the "Today" show when Travel + Leisure editor Nilou Motamed recommended to viewers this hotel as a "splurge" for the Big Apple. hotel. T+L got all 6C happy in their August issue despite the hotel's unopened status so we guess they just continued it over at Matt Lauer's house.
But when Matty goes, "I've never even heard of this hotel", Motamed was fast on her feet and said, "That's how new it is. It hasn't even opened yet." Hmmm...can it qualify as a new hotel when it hasn't even opened? Nevertheless, she then went on to say that the hotel will be open by the end of the summer which is sometime in September and definitely not by Labor Day weekend.
Motamed's reasons for splurging here include the fact that it's a Thompson Hotel and they make "just really cool hotels" and that the place will bring a bit of downtown NYC to midtown.
Room rates begin at $495 but if you're like Matt Lauer, you'll be happy to know this hotel as iPod docking stations in each room -- that is when and if it Axl Pomeranc ever opens his little 30 month renovation project.
