[Ed. Note: Here to review the fourth episode of Welcome to the Parker is our very own Jenna, who is currently enrolled in the School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University. Enjoy.]

In episode four of Welcome to the Parker, some reps from the Pleasure Chest checked in to propose a similar promotion at the Parker Palm Springs to the one we covered over at Manhattan's Bryant Park Hotel. We were surprised and delighted to be able to witness something that actually may have really happened (rather than the fake food critics and annoyingly over-the-top personalities we've seen so far).

MORE

Hawking something sorta like the new Pleasure Chest minibar menu in place at Bryant Park, a few representatives from the upscale sex toy and accessory retailer arrived in hopes of establishing a partnership with The Parker. In between a naked swimming session in the property's indoor pool and very obviously freaking out a roomservice employee, a particularly harsh-eyebrowed redhead and two of her colleagues checked out the Parker clientele and went ahead and proposed the idea to the management (Samir and Thomas included!)

Also included in last night's episode was a heartbreakingly awkward "Charisma Arts" seminar, wherein two (likely self-described) ladies' men teach some socially inept dudes how to pick up women.

Of course-- and who didn't see this one coming-- Michael, our favorite inexperienced untrained Sales Manager, is assigned to round up 30 women for the cause. Seriously?

Miraculously, he pulls it off (we learn soon that he is on "probation" and really needs to save his butt after the last two event mishaps he's had) and one awkward, socially inept dude even gets a cute little makeout session from a girl he'd just met. Yay!

While the toothy blonde cocktail waitress was busy telling her co-workers that the Charisma Arts dudes were the "saddest guys [she's] ever seen," our buddy Samir was running around trying to solve the issue of The Who (yep, that The Who) checking in that evening while the hotel was overbooked by several rooms because of their impending arrival.

Of course, the guest who played the loud music until 5 a.m. was the first to be booted from the hotel. Then came the nice couple who wanted to check into their room but were instead confronted by Samir and told they'd be staying elsewhere for the night because the hotel was overbooked. While most managers would be quick to make up a lie about why they're "walking" a guest to another hotel (burst pipes are popular excuses), Samir was straightforward with them...probably because he was on national TV, but still.

And in the classic tasteful Parker way, what did those walked guests receive when they were finally "welcomed" (hehe) back to the Parker the next night? Why, they were blessed with the gift of the free sample sex kits that the Pleasure Chest gave to the Parker employees.

Regifting sex toys. Nice.

Re: Welcome to the Parker (none / 0)

This Hotel is worthless. I caught up with last weeks episode also and they need to fire their sales manager asap. I have seen interns perform better, and who the heck yells at thier boss and throws a fit when they face a bad situation. This guy forgets more than my senile grandmother. I also love how the staff makes fun of the clients on national television. Way to take a PR opportunity and flush it down the toilet. The Carisma guys will never come back after seeing themselves made fun on on TV. This hotel has done nothing but provide a reason hotels should never let reality tv have editing power. I don't know who owns this hotel but sell now, take your Bravo check and head for the hills. One more thing why were the sex kit people having a meeting with the Dirctor of HR and her Husband? and in the lobby with sex toys. Get a Room!

Regarding the walk situation (none / 0)

The thing that annoyed me about this episode was that Samir says he's going to walk the guest to a hotel that makes them want to come back to the Parker or something to that effect. That's not cool! NO hotel I've ever worked in tries to make a guest more upset than they already are. Also, I've never seen a hotel kick a guest out of an occupied room just because they were going to be walking. Usually a guest gets a warning for noise complaints and that kind of thing. Strange.
But Michael, yeah he's completely out of his league but he makes me laugh.
