· The Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina has installed Automated External Defibrillators (AEDS) and boasts an "unprecedented survival rate" having saved three lives due to these defibrillators. The hotel also has CardioReady Certification--a 20-step review process that follows American Heart Association guidelines.
· Kimpton Hotels have started their Wellness Weekends in 10 cities which aim to provide "restorative services and amenities inspired by the content and ideas in body + soul magazine."
Available only on weekends (duh) the packages includes "peaceful accommodations (so you better complain if they put you in a room facing the street), a non-alcoholic Detox Mocktail on arrival, a take-home amenity, complimentary use of Kimpton's in-room yoga bag, a copy of body + soul magazine and Guide to Balanced Living booklet, a healthy breakfast and healthy recieps, and a 10 percent discount off an in-room spa treatment.
The package is available in the following cities: Boston, Chicago, Cupertino, New York, Portland, San Francisco, Seattle, Scottsdale, Washington D.C., and Vancouver, British Columbia.
· The Westin Time Square has kicked off its Walk This Way program which arms guests with a pedometer, pocket-sized maps of three- and five-mile loops from the hotel, and must-see Big Apple hot-spots. Also, after this workout guests will have a 15 percent discount ona treatment at the hotel spa.
But there's a catch and it's a good one. Since the American Heart Foundation recommends walking 10,000 steps a day, guests must return their pedometer showing at least 10,000 steps for the discount. Those who go over 10,000 steps will receive a complimentary upgrade to a WestinWORKOUT room on a return stay.
These rooms feature either a treadmill or an indoor cycle, workout DVDs, dumbbells, resistance tubing, a stability ball, yoga mat and additional Reebok workout equipment.
· Similarly, at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort is launching their Step It Up program which gives guests a pedometer, map of the surrounding walking trails, and a list of healthy food choices. And depending on how far guests walk (and how much their pedometer reads), they will be awarded with a complimentary Conditioning Foot Treatment at the Mandara Spa and a free pair of gel insoles to sooth well-walked feet.
We've recently received a bunch of emails (thankfully not hate mail) that are about hotels announcing new health programs--some fitness and some life-saving heavy stuff.
