We've been chronicling the presence of the Mondrian South Beach for quite some time now but today we have new news about the hotel's pool area--arguably one of the most important areas of a South Beach hotel.

The hotel was "conceived" by Marcel Wanders, Elle Décor's International Designer of the Year 2006, and will feature gardens, views of the ocean, an outdoor bar, private cabanas, a tented sandbox with toys and oh yeah, a swimming pool.

Envisioned as "Sleeping Beauty's Castle," Mondrian South Beach invites bikinied scenesters to retreat into a modern fantasy. While Delano's signature pool area became an internationally known attraction, Mondrian South Beach will raise the bar for poolside decadence with Wander's whimsical and fantastical environments.

"Bikinied scenesters?" Uh-oh, that could spell trouble. Let's just hope the celebs treat this Mondrian nicer than the West Hollywood property. The hotel is still planned for an early 2008 opening.
