Is a Bathrobe Proper Hotel Dinner Wear?

In the "be careful what you wish for" category, on Friday the Wall Street Journal noted that hotels who won't shut up about their fancy new spas are now having to deal with guests wearing their robes to dinner. It's like having Tony Soprano stay at your hotel!

Apparently the hotels are having a hard time making guests understand that bath robes are not proper attire for the bar and restaurant.

Good luck with that though since these days the spa is often the biggest and most expensive public space in the hotel as the paper reports that nearly hafl of U.S. hotels and resorts have spas.

Apparently it's the non-guests that are getting the most perturbed like ladies who lunch or businessmen striking deals and who would rather do so without glimpsing "hairy bellies and cellulite."

Something tells us this fight is not going away. With even more lavish spas under construction and room prices continually edging higher, many guests see it as their right to wear their robe where they please. Plus there's certainly no shortage of terrycloth as robe imports are "expected to grow 16.7%."
