An Aussie Ski Holiday at Lake Crackenback

With a great snow season happening this winter in Australia, we thought we'd take a look at a ski resort with a great name: the Novotel Lake Crackenback in Thredbo. Actually, Lake Crackenback is not only a very man-made name, but also a man-made lake, right next to the Skitube station (the train here can transfer you up to the Perisher Blue ski resort).
Name aside, this Novotel is a convenient spot to stay if you want to ski, and it's also picturesque in summer. High season at the resort runs until early September for skiers, and until then you can get a package including 2 nights' accommodation, 2 breakfasts, 1 dinner, 2 days ski and clothing hire and a 2 day mountain pass for a pretty reasonable total of A$825 (US$730), and less if you bring more friends and share a 2 or 3 bedroom apartment.
Rates drop by a few hundred dollars for "sun and ski September" when they say there'll still be enough snow for skiing, but remember it is Australia, so don't count on it.
