When Wyndham Hotels recently announced plans to kick up their amenities and rework their spa concept to "appeal to Gen X and Boomer travelers," we were not so excited.
In most hotels, this generally means having some sort of iPod docking station and introducing weird packages for divorcees.
But then we heard burgers and wine were involved in this Wyndham stuff, so we investigated.
MORE
As of July 1st, Wyndham has started offering something called the Bordeaux and Backyard Burger Summer Menu. Guests can order a flight of 2 oz. Bordeaux tastings served with mini-Wyndham signature burgers. Awesome. If you don't care about the French wines so much, you can go for a single glass with a full-sized burger. We're told you can even order this poolside.
The chain has also recently upgraded to the True Blue Spa line from Bath & Body Works and the products smell pretty good and not-too-girly. And thank you, Wyndham: someone seems to have finally recognized the need for a facial soap-- not shower gel, not a bar of soap, but actual face wash. Memo to Wyndham: please start a revolution and force all hotel chains to put a mini-bottle of facial scrub next to the sink. We are sick of washing our faces with bar soap.
[UPDATE: Sadly, a Wynham rep informs us that the facial soap is still a bar of soap. We must have gotten confused since the shampoo, conditioner, after sun cooling gel and moisturizer are all in tubes. But if they can do all that in a tube, how hard is a facial wash?
And finally, Wyndham unveiled plans for the new Blue Harmony Spa concept. These new spa/fitness centers are supposed to be built with sustainable materials (we'll see what the LEED people have to say about it) and are set to offer aroma bars, "quiet nooks", wellness bars and something called "an experience shower."
For those of us who are too lazy to leave our rooms for exercise, they're also introducing the Fit to Wyn virtual training program where you can stand in front of your TV and have a customized training session based on your desired results.
...and then you can wash your face and order more mini-burgers and wine.
