Our MLB Travel map returns! For the rest of the week we will be visiting ballparks across America and determining which hotels are worth a sleepover.
First up is Miller Park, home to the Milwaukee Brewers. There's not a whole lotta hotels near Miller Park so we have picked these hotels for other reasons than proximity. For instance, a cool name like the Pfister Hotel.
MORE
Naturally, there's more to the hotel than its name. Like an indoor swimming pool, a stylish bar on the hotel's top floor, 307 luxury rooms and suites and a nod from Conde Nast. This hotel even has its very own gift cards.
And it's truly worthy of an MLB Travel pick because Chicago Cubs pitcher Matt Clement had $15,000 worth of jewelry stolen from here. But the Milwaukee po-po caught the robber quickly.
The Ambassador Hotel, located in downtown, gets a mention because any city that has an Ambassador Hotel usually means its a throwback to the old school way of running hotels. Or so we thought. This place actually has free internet access running through its Art Deco walls. And despite being a member of the Historic Hotels of America, the Ambassador has modern and updated rooms that include flat-screen TVs, ergonomic desk chairs, wet bars and Aveda products.
Another interesting place to stay in the Hotel Metro, also in downtown, because it prides itself on not only being historic but also romantic. Heh heh. There's lot of romance themes running across the website like couples kissing, toasting champagne, hanging in bed.
But the hotel has much more than that. There are several types of suites, ranging from master suites (this has a hot tub inside) to business suites (any and all tools you need for biz travel) and pet-friendly suites, which are self-explanatory.
Of course there are some cheesy packages--Wedding, Romance, et.al--but the hotel also offers a Manager's Special where you can get even lower rates than listed.
Lastly, we have Knickerbocker on the Lake because well, that's a pretty interesting name too. It's also one of the city's few boutique hotels.
Actually out of the 180 suites and rooms, half are "owner-occupied" so it sounds like its more like the Hotel Chelsea but without the bohemian artists and Andre Balazs take-over. And like a lot of hotels in Milwaukee that aren't from a big hotel chain, the Knickbocker is old, having been built in 1929.
All rooms come with a fully equipped kitchen or kitchenette, cable and internet. Although beware some have scary floral patterns.
