Did you know that Japanese love hotels have existed since the 1600s? While we're talking facts and figures, it also turns out that the Japanese only get it on 36 times a year, pretty low compared to the world average of 97, and lots of Japanese would prefer to sleep or go shopping.

Nevertheless, love hotels are still big business and one we especially like the sound of in Osaka is the Rose Lips Love Hotel. More to the point, we like the look of it, with this enormous semi-undressed woman on the front and the roses which reach to the fifth floor.

MORE

It's not easy to track down the Rose Lips, despite every second foreign tourist posting photos of it online, but we did finally reach the Rose Lips website. It opens with some lovely misspellings like "Meet Your Luxuary" and "Welcom to Rose Lips", and describes itself as a "petit hotel" (is this Japlish for love?).

And despite the promise of an English version of the site, it's not yet an active link. We can work out that the hotel is in the Tsuruhashi district, not far from the southern downtown hub of Namba, and if you've got a mate who reads Japanese, they might be able to get you more info: or follow this map from the train station.
