Mondrian Hotel Takes On Chicago

Chicago may have lost out on getting a Nicky Hilton Nicky O hotel but they are gaining something better and something actually real. Morgans Hotel Group has announced plans for a Mondrian Hotel Chicago. The Chi-town property will be a partnership between Morgans and Chicago-based developer M Development:

The joint venture will develop Mondrian Chicago, which is currently expected to have 200 rooms, on the existing property of the Cedar Hotel at the highly desirable intersection of State, Rush and Cedar Streets. The property is located in the Gold Coast region of Chicago in close proximity to dining, nightlife, and high-end retail boutiques. In addition, given the property's prime location, many guest rooms will have views of Lake Michigan.

The hotel will have a restaurant, bar, meeting rooms, fitness center and possibly an outdoor bar/lounge. The facade of the Cedar hotel will also undergo some restoration to preserve the building's "distinctive architectural features." Which means that truck shop sign is coming down.

The Mondrian Hotel originated in West Hollywood and has recently expanded to Scottsdale, Ariz. as well as begun construction the Mondrian South Beach. Plus there's also some rumblings about a Mondrian NYC..

Even though the original Mondrian Hotel has been the hotspot for celebrity meltdowns, the hotel chain can't get enough of the celebs. Arizona Cardinals quarterback and one-time Paris Hilton boytoy Matt Leinart recently hosted a birthday party poolside at the Mondrian Scottsdale. No doubt the Mondrian Hotel will host some Chicago hometown celebs. Let's just hope they aren't puking in the bathroom during one last binge before rehab.
