Now that the kinky gang-member hotel staff have been fired, we can take a proper look at the Rendezvous Observation City Hotel. It's the only high-rise hotel you'll find along the pristine Western Australian coast--its 17 storeys caused a ton of controversy when they were built, and locals would never allow what the consider a monstrosity to be repeated anywhere along the beach. This makes Ob City's views one of a kind in Perth, even if it is suburban Perth, some 6 or 7 miles from the city center.

If you've got a rental car, then the location is actually great, with easy access to attractions like the Hillarys Boat Harbour or a ride over to the island of Rottnest. And of course the gorgeous Scarborough Beach is literally right outside. Inside the hotel is a trickier matter. It was a 5-star hotel in its heyday, but is now really only a 4-star. It's got 327 regular rooms, including newly refurbished Plaza Club rooms on the top 3 floors, and 6 suites with huge balconies overlooking the Indian Ocean.

And one more tip: don't make a booking too far in advance. There are rumblings of redevelopment plans for the Observation City building, including turning it into a smaller boutique hotel and selling parts of it off as luxury apartments. We'll keep you posted.
