First comes love, then comes marriage. In between, could there be a destination engagement in the offing for some high-spirited couples? An increasing number of hotels and resorts are, yuck, yuck, proposing just that.

Several weeks ago, we described the engagement package at The James Hotel Chicago. Today, as we carouse into one of the coolest wedding dates in recent memory (07-07-07; advance congrats to Eva Longoria and Tony Parker and all the other million couples who decided to get married on this day), we bring you an engagement package from Frenchman's Reef and Morning Start Marriott Beach Resort.

The "On Bended Knee" package includes a private consultation with the resort's Wedding in Paradise representative on the most romantic places to propose in St. Thomas, along with a $100 credit toward a future wedding. (It's easy to see where this is going: for repeat business.) The couple also gets an engagement photo, an in-room massage, champagne and strawberries in the room the night of the proposal. (Can you imagine the mood if the answer was no?)

Also in the package is a private dinner at Windows on the Harbour, along with unlimited ferry tickets to downtown St. Thomas, daily breakfast buffet. The package goes for $532 a night from now until August 19. Between August 20 and October 31, the rate falls to $445 a night. Between November 1 and December 20, the rate is $591. There's a minimum four-night stay requirement. (We repeat: Can you imagine the mood if the answer is no?)

These rates include tax and gratuities for bellman and housekeeper. What's missing from the mix here? Could destination births, á la Brangelina' s great escape to Namibia last year, far behind?
