This week we are focusing on the latest news and reviews on the London Hotel Scene. We'll be looking at budget hotels, Wimbledon hotels, The Concert for Diana hotels and more. So if you've got a London hotel story or query, then c'mon now--fill us in.

They'd better be worth the wait. Yo! Sushi's capsule hotel spin-off Yotel has been flickering in and out of the headlines for years now but finally seem ready to open this weekend at London's Gatwick Airport. They want to become "the i-Pod of the hotel industry" which means we need something really pretty hip and on-the-money.

The UK Times had a big write-up on the Gatwick Yotel this weekend after travel writer Susan d'Arcy spent a night there. She got to stay in a £80-a-night Premium cabin, which impressed her:

These feel genuinely luxurious. A soft white-and-grey colour scheme, coupled with lots of glass and mirrors, successfully lends the 10 square metres an impression of light and airiness. The techno wall has an oak finish, reminiscent of the dashboard of an old-fashioned Jag, and incorporates your TV, a desk and chair, an open wardrobe and shelves. There are thoughtful touches such as a decent hairdryer, eye masks and bespoke Arran Aromatics toiletries, but the pièce de résistance has to be the invitingly squidgy, cushioned-up couch that, at the touch of a button, becomes a full-length bed.

The Standard cabins (which are considerably cheaper at just £55 a night) didn't quite dazzle her so much; they're marketed as having double beds, but d'Arcy said she'd "only advise that if you want to end the relationship". Whichever cabin you choose, you can order food through the TV, which d'Arcy reported arrived within 15 minutes and seemed satisfactory.

Starting Sunday "real people" will start sleeping in the Yotel officially. Yet we have word from a spy in London, that Yotel has some rooms open now. Maybe these are just for reviewers but either way, soon will be hearing the real scoop on Yotel from travelers.
