There are two seatings for the Sky Terrace Fourth of July dinner, one at 6:30pm, one at 7:30pm. Once seated, diners stay through the fireworks, which typically kick off around 9:00pm.
The seven-course dinner, created by Executive Chef Doug Barg, includes jumbo crab cakes, roasted corn potato chowder and, for the entrée, grilled filet tenderloin. For dessert, there's some chocolate concoction we couldn't quite get a handle on. The prix fixe repast costs $125 and does not include drinks or gratuity. (Note: The reservation is nonrefundable.)
Last evening when we checked in by phone, the reservation office said there were still seats available but that they were going at a decent clip.
For a room with a fireworks view, The Hotel Washington is renting suites for $1,200 a pop. That rate includes fare for six (beer, soda, a cheese platter, fresh fruit, classic Americana hors d'ouevres such as buffalo wings, pigs-in-a-blanket). As for the six of you spending the night, consider this: The suite only has one king-size bed. The sofa does not open into a bed. For the sporting among you, the floors are carpeted.
For reservations, call 202-638-5900 or 800-424-9540. The hotel's website also has a PDF flyer with more info.
