More Thoughts on Marriott and Schrager's Unholy Union

Now that we have had a while to digest the unlikely partnering of Bill Marriott and Ian Schrager, we have started to wonder what these hotels might include. Our thoughts after the jump.

MORE

·The Cost
As Bill Marriott has already stated he liked the $500+ room rate that Gramercy Park Hotel currently asks for, so expect the rooms to be no cheaper than that.

·Internet Access
The wireless offerings at the hotel also won't be cheap. Maybe the hotels won't even have wireless? Either way, we say $20 and up to use the internet.

· The Smoking Policy
Since Ian Schrager's new kick is arty hotels, not necessarily design hotels, he will want to cater to an arty crowd. And most of these people smoke. But Marriott Hotels don't allow smoking. The most they allow is a smoking area 25 feet from the hotel. A tough predicament indeed. But we have a feeling that Marriott is going to strong-arm Ian into creating Smoke-Free properties.

· Nightstand Naughties
But Ian will get his revenge when he asks that copies of the Mormon bible NOT be placed in the nightstands. Bill however won't stand for sex toys anywhere.

· Service
Neither Marriott nor Schrager stand out for having hotels with excellent service so expect this to continue.

· Employee Looks
Ian's been known to be a little vain about how his employees look. The doormen at Gramercy Park last year were most likely trying to get their underwear modeling career off the ground when they were not working. Marriott employees have yet to impress us. This category will probably split the difference. The employees won't be knockouts but they won't be missing teeth either.

· Nightlife
Marriott has been jonesing to get in on the boutique game for so long that they will probably pull out all the stops for an exclusive lounge and a top chef restaurant. We see a deal being struck similar to the one Rande Gerber has with W Hotels. Maybe GPH's Rose Bar will spin-off worldwide.

As for a restaurant, since GPH has yet to open their eatery, who knows what Ian is thinking here. But again, we could see a deal with a chef like Tom Colicchio or Guy Savoy--someone who has no problem going commercial but isn't overdone yet like Wolfgang Puck. Stick a fork in that guy, he's done!
