South Beach Hotel Rates Head South

Heading to Miami this time of year involves an element of throwing caution to the wind. Wind as in those high gusts associated with a tropical storm or hurricane. Of course historically the big whoppers tend not to whip up until later in the summer. Nonetheless, South Beach hotels are already dropping rates to lure the stormy-weather risk-averse among us. Last week, we looked at The Standard Miami's 'Summer Lovin' deal. This week we got three more hot hotels and their hotter deals after the jump.

At The Setai, studio suites that normally go for $950 are night are $475 a night. This summer escape package is not listed on the hotel's website. We discovered it over the phone. The special has no close date and, as these things go, is based on availability.

The Raleigh, another South Beach draw, offers a more formalized deal by trumpeting it prominently on the hotel's homepage: Two nights for two in an ocean-view room. The package includes continental breakfast and valet parking. The two-night rate, available online as well as by phone, is $495. It runs through September 30. (Enter "Grab a Pal" when you book online.)

The National Hotel is still advertising a spring getaway starting at $219 a night on its website. But click to book, and we found rates as low as $161 for a city view room and $208 for an ocean-view for a month from now.

One overlooked cool thing about Miami: If you time it right and travel during one of those beasty heat waves up north, you can actually beat the heat in South Beach.
