Summer is here, which means baseball-obsessed people all over the U.S. are hopping in planes, trains, and automobiles to visit MLB fields around the country. To help these fanatic fans/hotel guests, we will be looking at ballparks around the country and give you a quick rundown of your closest, safest, and best hotel options. "America's Favorite Pastime" with some of America's finest second cities--what is not to love? If you got any hotel questions or suggestions or even better, firsthand baseball park hotel reviews, send them here and share them with other MLB fans--even if they are Yankee fans.

We chose to look at the Arizona Diamondbacks team today because we realize we don't have much on hotels in Phoenix. And now we know why. Downtown Phoenix has been a struggling neighborhood for quite some time. Although there is some good redevelopment going on, swanky boutique hotels have yet to hit the area.

For now, the closest hotel to Chase Field is the Wyndham Phoenix, which reviews would describe as "decent" at best.

Another bad sign? The hotel's website still refers to the ballpark by its old name, Bank One Ballpark. And the hotel has no fun ballpark package. C'mon sales/marketing people, get creative with this kind of opportunity. However, if you are interested you can book the Wyndham Weekender which gets you 50% off a second night or 50% off an additional room on the same night (this doesn't apply to families for some reason.)

The only other options close to the ballpark are a Ramada Inn, a Holiday Inn Express (which actually fares better than the Wyndham) and the Hotel San Carlos where one review called the room furnishings "old & cheap."

A popular option in town is the Hyatt Regency which is not near Chase Field but do-able if a Budget Lodge Hotel stay scares you.

Where Stray Rod and The Blonde Would Stay: The scandalous couple might be at home in Phoenix's sketchy downtown neighborhood but they wouldn't do it in a Holiday Inn Express. No, these two would certainly hit up the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort and Spa. They might even take advantage of the resort's summer specials.
