One of the perks of living in Los Angeles, and there are not many, is that you can drop in on some of the bars and restaurants that you read about in weekly tabloid magazines. In our sad shallow minds, yes, this qualifies as a perk.

Over the weekend, a friend suggested meeting around 10pm at Sidebar inside the Four Seasons Beverly Wilshire. Sidebar is part of Cut, the Wolfgang Puck steakhouse made popular by the Scientology-recruiting chief Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes and their target, er...friend, Victoria Beckham, among other celebs.

Previously, the restaurant and bar space now occupied by Cut and Sidebar were drab, ho-hum, nothing special rooms. But what a difference a renovation makes. The rooms have been completely modernized in all-white by interior architect Richard Meier who did the Getty Museum.

First of all, Cut was completely booked. We peeked in and spied a lot of industry people and Beverly Hills matrons showing off their latest plastic surgery. Sidebar, on the other hand, was full of some younger folk and they looked mostly like tourists. The seats at the bar were all taken and we later found out why they were so coveted. If you sit at the bar, you can order off the actual Cut menu (above.) If you sit at the longer island just beyond the bar, you have to order from a special menu called Rough Cuts, which is basically just appetizers.

We got a seat at this appetizers-only island and promptly order the Kobe Beef Sliders on Brioche Buns with Sweet Pickles and the French Fries accompanied by a bernaise aioli sauce. It was all yummy. The thing we are starting to learn about high-end food is that it really awakens your taste buds. We love In-n-Out but these sliders made us salivate, while we were eating them.

The valet scene was sort of a madhouse. There was some other event going on and the valet workers had run out of tickets by the time we pulled up. This actually worked to our advantage because they kept our car close to the front and we didn't have to pay the full parking rate. We did, however, tip the man very well.

As for celebrities, we spied Jason Ritter on our way out. He drives a blue Toyota Prius.
