When 'Breakfast Included' Is Cheaper Than a Standard Room Rate

June 11, 2007 at 9:40 AM | 0 Comments

According to this weekend's UK Times, you can be much better off if you book "breakfast included" rooms--and not just from the obvious fact of having a full stomach before you leave your hotel. They have a theory that it often works out cheaper to book a room that includes breakfast (even if you don't actually eat it) than one that doesn't.

For example, they give the example that the Four Seasons Provence has a standard room rate of £474, but this drops to £369 if you ask for breakfast to be included. This weird scenario also holds true in Four Season hotels in Dublin and Egypt. Why? They only dug deep enough to get a Four Seasons rep saying "B&B prices are very much dependent on seasonality", whatever that really means. Does it happen at other hotels? We're not sure, but it surely pays to ask.
