This weekend's UK Times carried a feature on glitzy Hong Kong and the Jia Boutique Hotel came away sounding pretty good. What we didn't know:

Jia means "home" in Mandarin and you would have pretty hip taste if your house had this minimalist white decor and furniture, sexy objets d'art and cool teak. It was Philippe Starck's first boutique hotel project in Asia, and while the studio rooms are small, they are well formed.

Aah, the "Home Boutique", although homely is perhaps not the way to describe it. Hip is right though: just start with the streaming music at Jia's website (hip enough to drive us insane) and if that's not enough, get their motto: "it's the place to be in the place to be".

It's been open just a few months and seems to be gathering good feedback; it's cosy, it's a sanctuary, convenient and, you guessed it, hip. Jia Shanghai and Jia Krabi in Thailand are due to be opening in the next year, spreading that hipness right across Asia.
