Winter Warm at Grandis Cottages in Perth's Swan Valley
May 4, 2007 at 12:50 PM | 0 Comments

Winter is on the way in Australia and the usually constant warm temperatures in Perth, Western Australia are already giving way to cloudy days and light jackets needed. In cooler weather, it's great to get away from the beach and try the hills areas, like the scenic Swan Valley east of Perth, full of vineyards, breweries and cosy accommodation.
We tried out the Grandis Cottages in Henley Brook, advertised as luxury cottages that can sleep up to 5 people. A huge rose garden at the entrance gave it a British feel, which definitely means it fits for winter, and the cottage itself had a gas-fired glowing-red stove to warm the rooms up. The bathroom was a particularly good feature, with super-heating lights and a good-sized jacuzzi. Breakfast is supplied, but not cooked: guests can fry up their bacon, eggs, sausages and tomatoes themselves in the morning from the baskets handed out in the evening.
On the downside, if the weather is fine you must share the outdoor area with your neighbors--a risk if they're not your kind of people. The Perth International Airport is also surprisingly close and during the day and evening, plane noise can be a bit off-putting. But if you curl up on the super-comfortable armchairs in front of the fire with the stereo blaring or the bacon frying, you won't hear them.
