A while back we put the Las Vegas Hilton on the Crapping Out tier of our Viva Las Vegas Hotel Map mostly for bad location, the nerdy Star Trek Experience and outdated decor.

But we almost reconsidered this after learning out that you can get free WiFi there as well as some decent rates.

Now, we have a first person review from a reader who was extremely disappointed by the Las Vegas Hilton. But for different reasons than we would expect. So where does this hotel stand?

At the Las Vegas Hilton, we waited 45 minutes in line in the lobby and there was no place for the rest of the family to sit--about 30 people were sitting on the floors in the lobby.

Then we were first told that we could not get two adjoining rooms (we have young kids). Then we were told that only adjoining smoking rooms were available, then were finally assigned to two nonsmoking rooms. One of the rooms had not been made up, and housekeeping had not gotten our request for a rollaway bed.

When we called to check on the request, a manager called back and insisted that we tell him which person at the desk had been helping us so that he could chew that person out. Definitely not a nice atmosphere. Yes, the rooms were gorgeous, with nice mirrors, nice granite countertops, a nice view.

We went to the pool and were told on the way back that we could have gotten on the shuttle for the Flamingo's pools, but by then it was too late. The line at the buffet was just too long to wait in with the kids, so we had the Pizza Hut food, which wasn't bad but not what we wanted, especially since we had free tickets to the buffet.

At home I wrote to the manager and to the home office. I got a short note back from the manager to say that the person who had helped us at the desk had been "spoken to" (not what we wanted since she was actually helpful) and that the next time we were there we would get an upgrade--but no offer of a refund. Then the letter got circulated from the home office to the manager, and this time I got a longer letter explaining why we had such a bad experience (demand was unexpectedly high) and offering us a free night. But we wouldn't risk another bad experience like this one for a free night, that's for sure.

So what do you think--is the Las Vegas Hilton worth it or worthless? Leave your thoughts and experiences in comments below.

    For what it's worth....

I have never stayed at the LV Hilton and I am not sure I would want to. It looks old and the Star Trek experience scares me. But if I was a Hilton Honors member with points to burn I might stay here. I hear that if you are Honors members you get better rooms and better treatment.

I have never stayed here either, however, the free wifi always lures me in.  There are just too many other options in Vegas though--unless I had Hilton points or the room was offered at a rock bottom rate, I would pass.

    I'd say worthless...

I wouldn't want to stay at a place that couldn't take care of all its guests. What does "demand was unexpectedly high" mean? They know how many rooms are in the hotel, don't they? Not good.

    I don't understand this:

"We went to the pool and were told on the way back that we could have gotten on the shuttle for the Flamingo's pools, but by then it was too late."

Why are they shuttling people to the Flamingo pool?  Is the Hilton pool closed?

No I think that there is a partnership

between LV Hilton and the Flamingo. The Hilton Grand Vacations Club is either located in the Flamingo or is connected to it.
