Design Hotels Group Gets Busy Recruiting

May 24, 2007 at 9:15 AM | by | Comments (0)

The Design Hotels group--authors of the Design Hotels Yearbook--have just signed up a bunch of new hotels to the group. Independent hotels that are "united by progressive design" can join the group, which has its headquarters in Berlin.

During this year, eight existing hotels will sign on to be official Design Hotels, and four newly opening hotels will also be part of the group. The Chedi Milan (Indonesia meets Italy) and the Santa Teresa Resort (shown above) in Sicily joined up in March, and when London's new Haymarket Hotel opened up last April, it also got a guernsey as a Design Hotel.

Interesting "opening soon" hotels in the Design Hotels group include the Avalon Hotel in Gothenburg, Sweden, with its "rough-hewn lodge-like feel", and the Lanchid Hotel in Budapest. The Lanchid is named after the city's famous chain bridge over the Danube and includes one of those ultra-modern lighting designs that sometimes take your attention away from, well, everything else. All of the range grouped with Design Hotels do seem to have something quirky going for them, so it might be worth checking out just the same.
