Take Dad Out to the Ball Game

[UPDATE: This package offers free valet parking at the hotel (not the game) and is now offering two hours of food and beverage at the game instead of 90 minutes.]

We normally think of the Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers as a big, bad convention hotel. (You have signed up for September's Valvular Heart Disease conclave, haven't you?) But even road dogs and salarymen need some time off, which is why the Sheraton has a Father's Day package that should excite the Cubs fan--and dad--in your life.

The package includes accommodations, free valet parking at the game and a 90-minute snack bar bonanza at the Cubs-Padres game on June 16. The seats could be better than the bleachers, but then again, that's where the home run action happens. (If you're lucky enough to see two National League teams hit home runs, that is.)

You'll end up paying $400 for the whole schebang, but you can get two nights for $600. Plain old room rates for the same weekend are starting at $200 a night, so you're going to have to choke down a lot of hot dogs to get your money's worth. Then again, isn't your dad worth it?

This is a great way for dad's to spend time with their son's.  More cities should be doing something similar to this.

    Cubs tickets are massively overpriced.

Cubs tickets are incredibly pricey.  If you want to sit in the sunshine & have an unrestricted view, the minimum you will pay is $50.00 a seat.  Minimum price to sit on bench seats in the Bleachers is $40.00  Wrigley is indeed historic, but it's got some of the worst sightlines of any ballpark.  It's a Beer Garden that just happens to have a baseball field inside.

If you want to take Dad to the ballpark, try Monday night homestands at US Cellular Field, home of the Chicago White Sox.  On Monday nights with match-ups against non-marquee teams (anyone other than the Yankees, Red Sox or "Cross-Town Classic" games vs. the Cubs) tikets are 1/2 off.  Not only can you afford to take Dad, the kids can come, too.  It's more family-friendly not only in price, but its crowds are better behaved.  Sorry to Cubs fans, but it's true!

    Thanks langtry!

Great tips... Maybe the package actually is a good deal.

As long as we're talking about ballparks that won't break the bank, I have to mention the Best Minor League Ballparks series we did over at Jaunted. Not the majors, but you can't beat it for the price.

    Re: Thanks pbb!

Minor League baseball is great -- I wish there was one in the city of Chicago (where I live), but the nearest club is the Kane County Cougars.  I'll be sure to check your link out.
