Thanks to a kind soul at National Geographic Traveler we have learned that if you become a volunteer at the U.S. Forest Service trail conservation in Colorado, you can get two discounted nights at one of the Rock Resort Hotels. Called Give and Getaway, the resorts include the Keystone Lodge, the Lodge at Vail, The Pines Lodge and The Lodge & Spa at Cordillera. Here's how it works:

Give and you shall receive! Colorado RockResorts are offering the opportunity to Give & Getaway. Volunteer for the U.S. Forest Service working on trail conservation in the beautiful White River National Forest. In return enjoy two nights of unforgettable luxury at a reduced rate as well as special complimentary treats.

So what does being a volunteer entail? Well, you will be instructed and accompanied by local Forest Service personnel on a three-mile round trip hike. You will also be using hand tools, lift loads up to 30 pounds, and work rain or shine. Lastly, you must be older than 16.

The catch is that this promotion is available at different times throughout the summer for each of the hotels, so you will have to plan around that. Also, when you get there you can donate $1 per room night to the National Forest Foundation which will implement on-the-ground conservation projects in Colorado, California and Nevada.
