HotelChatter Exclusive
There could be an end in sight to the hotel industry's long-awaited Chinese Democracy hotel, Six Columbus . One of our secret insiders recently toured the place and wrote in with all the details of the public spaces and the guestrooms. But the biggest piece of information our insider shared? Six Columbus is now aiming for an opening in about four weeks, which is according to our tipster, actually quite doable. Of course, we have been awaiting this hotel opening since 2004, so we won't believe it until we see it, but it appears 6 Columbus will open in June.
The Inside Scoop with More Pictures after the jump.

From our super secret hotel insider:
The lobby is readyish, most work complete, the bar and restaurant are almost complete. I don't really know what you have reported before but here is what I know. 88 guestrooms.
The bar of the lobby looks like it could comfortably hold about 30-40 people (40 seems tight).
The lobby is very nice with a huge wall of what looked like white marble. Lobby is on the small side but manageable. The staff seems very friendly and knowledgeable, some are from other Thompson properties. They look great in their uniforms.
The bar and restaurant will be Blue Ribbon (sushi). The restaurant looks like it could probably hold about 100 people comfortably and there is a small private dining area and sushi bar.
The hotel will also have a 1000 sq. ft. (approx.) roof top bar, bi-level--possibly tri level. Small so access will no doubt be exclusive.
They have about nine room types including a Thompson penthouse, modeled after the 60 Thompson one (almost identical). Their starter room, is what they are calling a Pod room and it's about 175 sq. ft. which is small but still bigger than the Hudson I believe. The deluxe room with king bed is nice, it has a large work desk with mini bar/ snacks.
They have (I guess) 32 inch plasmas in all rooms, and the decor is nice. They describe it as Manhattan meets MOD. I didn't really like the chairs in the room, but I'm no design guru, in fact I know little. The bathrooms are nice. I didn't test it but from a quick glance I think they could have went with better or more interesting shower heads. The sinks are really cool in my opinion. The lighting is good.
The hallway wall coverings--not sure if wall paper or what--look like they might not wear very well. The only thing I could say negative about the room was that the thermostat is one of those old slide style ones, not a digital. I don't know jack about HVAC but it seemed odd to me. And now the grand finale, they estimate opening in 4 weeks, probably 1st week in June.
Stay tuned.
